Just go quietly on

I began the Ancient Paths web site by talking about Dark Clouds – and Graham Kendrick’s hymn ‘O Lord, the Clouds are Gathering.’

There are so many distressing things going on in our world right now. Rising food prices, energy bills and interest rates are resulting in food insecurity for many people.

The National Health Service appears to be increasingly overwhelmed – leaving many on long waiting lists for treatment.

Undermines our security

Corruption, crime and violence fill our newspapers and screens.  Political instability and conflict around the world undermines our sense of security. And there’s no sign that things are getting better.

Sometimes our own personal circumstances can cause us fret – or turmoil in our world can cause us to fear. How can we make sense of it all? Where can we find peace of mind?

Do not be3 anxious

Remind yourself that God is in control of time and eternity. He works all things together to bring about his perfect plan. Believe that God’s promises are binding and true. Rest in His Word – for He who said it is faithful and true. Believe that it’s possible to live moment by moment resting in Him.

In the video  “Just Go Quietly On“, Esther Walker shares insight she has learned about trusting God in a difficult times. “In His presence there is quiet“, says Esther “they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength

Occupy yourself with Him

Take time with the Lord Jesus and gaze upon His loveliness. Fix the eyes of your heart on Jesus – and away from the world’s turmoil.

Turn away from your own efforts – and from faith in yourself – and allow Him to occupy your thoughts until He is resting within your heart.

Come away from all else and set your heart, your thoughts, your mind on Jesus. Don’t seek the answers from others but occupy yourself with Him.

O soul are you weary and troubledNo light in the darkness you see . . .Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace

Just go quietly on – delighting in and worshipping God. That’s the best possible response to the dark clouds that are gathering in our world.

Next

We need to worship God and pray for our world, our nation, our neighbourhoods and our families. The next web page uses hymn videos for worship – and as prayers in themselves.
